[video] 1/43 scale @Airfix Land Rover fire engine conversion, with @pimoroni Tiny FX lights and siren (sound on), plus bespoke 3D printed parts. Finishing touches to the model and ‘how-to’ video should be done for tomorrow.

[image] Today’s ‘that’s never going to work’ experience: very tiny 3D printed machine guns for the sidelights of the 1/43 scale DB5. Could actually be about 20% bigger. #JFFLetterB

[image] That’s pretty much all of the parts designed and test printed. Front hoses and siren are good to go, with pump and controls close behind. Ladders could be a little bit longer. Not 100% sure about the brass mesh over the speaker, but on the whole making good progress. #JFFLetterB

[image] My #JFFWWI vintage Airfix Dennis fire engine is finished - complete with lights and sound effects provided by the Tiny FX controller in the back. 1970s kit with 2026 tech.

[image] Just in time for the #JFFLetterB deadline! James Bond's Aston Martin DB5. 1/43 scale @Airfix kit, with my own 3D printed added extras including bulletproof screen, extended bumper overriders and wheel spinners, plus bespoke numberplate decals.

[image] I really am now all set for #JFFWWI with the arrival of a vintage Airfix 1914 Dennis fire engine - still sealed in the bag.

[image] Nice shiny silver bonnet (Vallejo Chrome) and a first coat of Mr Hobby ‘Character Red’ on the bodywork and ladder carriage. Hole drilled on top for the IR remote sensor. #JFFWWI

[image] 50 year old Airfix decals on some pretty chunky carrier film, but any yellowing not a problem against the red. #JFFWWI

[image] Perhaps unsurprisingly I have run out of red paint. More on order for the top coats. #JFFWWI

[video] Resin tinting has worked really well for the #BlueLights. Took a whole lot more than a couple of drops of the dye to get anything like an intense enough colour. #JFFLetterB

[image] Ok, I’m calling the fire truck finished. There will be bits and bobs to fiddle with, but I think we’re done. Really fun build with lots of entertaining stuff like the 3D print designs and special effects - of which you can find out more here: #JFFLetterB

[image] Nicely detailed, the old Airfix chassis is quite complex, so quite a bit of loose fitting before committing to glue. #JFFWWI

[image] First test of my James Bond DB5 centre console. Pretty reasonable fit for a first attempt, and the button detailing has come out well. #JFFLetterB

[image] Some weathering washes on the wheels and bodywork, plus a bit of overall grime on underbody and chassis. Always seems a bit perverse having spent all that effort getting a good gloss finish just to dull it down, but it is meant to be a working fire engine after all. #JFFLetterB

[image] Nearly finished, with just a few details outstanding. Would be nice to get it done by the weekend, but I’m definitely not going to rush it at this stage. #JFFWWI

[image] Very nearly finished. Blue lights installed and all the 3D printed bits attached. Still a bit of mild weathering to do on the back section, and a couple of details to paint. #JFFLetterB

[image] Today’s developments: my first stab at the hoses for the bonnet, and the speaker fitted to the roof. Also I remembered to order some more red paint as I’ve very nearly run out. #JFFLetterB

[image] Designed and 3D printed a little template to score around the roof panel for the DB5 ejector seat using my smallest drill bit. I decided not to cut right through but just outline the panel. #JFFLetterB

[image] Front bumper design printed - with overriders extended for battering the bad guys. The outer bits are coming from the kit, which I’ve sawn off from either end. #JFFLetterB

[image] My second #JFFLetterB entry: Handley Page HP42 G-AAXD 'Horatius'. @Airfix 1:144 scale kit with 3D printed interior and desert landing strip. Mr Color 'Super Silver' paint job with home-made decals. Finished in the nick of time!
